Mother Earth Connection
Time & Location
About the event
Indigenous people have been using medicinal plants from the Boreal forest traditionally for thousands of years. We would like to honour these teachings of the medicines Mother Earth provides.
We will be traveling about 20 minutes north of The Pas to see the rare carnivorous Pitcher Plants and to collect medicines that nature might present in this bog area. Then we will cross over Highway 10 on the west side to the Root Lake Gravel Pit area where we will collect spruce tips, Birch water, Labrador tea and kinnickinick. I'll even show you where the snake dens are out here!
Dress for cool, wet weather with your trowel, snippers or knife, twine, collecting bag and rubber boots. You might want to wear or bring your traditional ribbon skirt/shirt when touching the medicines (if you have one). We will travel in our own vehicles.
Using the medicines that YOU have collected is a beautiful way to connect and honour Mother Earth!
